Auch in Indiana (USA) gibt es eine Studentenstiftung.
Die Indiana University Student Foundation wurde Anfang der 50er Jahre gegründet. Warum?
In 1950 Howdy Wilcox had been executive director of the IU Foundation for about a year and had a minor problem. No one knew what the IU Foundation was! "In those days, the Foundation simply had no identity on campus, neither with the students nor the faculty. I wrote a letter to President Wells recommending that we form a Student Foundation Committee and charge that committee with 'spreading the word.'" And so the IU Student Foundation (IUSF) was born.

Von ihm erfuhr ich auch von einer empirischen Studie mit dem Titel The Student Foundation as a Community of Participation : A Study of Its Impact on Alumni Giving, die Aaron Conley ca. 2000 geschrieben hat. Ergebnis:
The results confirmed the assumption that the IU Student Foundation has a significant impact on creating more generous alumni donors. Overall, IUSF member alumni have donated significantly higher average amounts to Indiana University than nonmember alumni. In some cases, member alumni gave six times the amount non-members gave. “Through their participation in the student foundation, students become aware of the importance of philanthropic support to the university early on. Because they engage in fund raising while they are ‘clients’ of the o rganization, they develop a strong emotional bond to the group and its goals,” says Tempel, who is also professor of higher education, public affairs, and philanthropic studies at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis.
